For types of Plasmodium species causes 4 types of malaria in Humans. They are Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malaria, and Plasmodium falciparum.
Relapse of malaria is when some stages of Macro-Metacryptozoites od plasmodium ovale or Plasmodium Vivax may survive for a long period in the liver as dormant stages called hypnozoites. Reactivation of these hypnozoites leads to the initiation of fresh erythrocytic cycles resulting in the new attacks of malaria. People diagnosed with P. vivax or P. ovale are often given a second drug to help prevent these relapses.
Hence Malaria does not relapse in the case of Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium falciparum.
