Manu needs ₹7.50 to buy an eraser. He already has a few ₹2 coins and a few 50 paise coins with him. How many ₹2 coins and 50 paise coins will Manu need to buy the eraser such that he uses the least number of 50 paise coins?
Three ₹2 coins and three 50 paise coins
As per the question,
Manu has to use least 50 paise coins. So he needs to use maximum ₹2 coins to buy the eraser.
The cost of the eraser = ₹7.50
The value of two ₹2 coins
= ₹2×2 = ₹4
The value of three ₹2 coins
= ₹2×3 = ₹6
The value of four ₹2 coins
= ₹2×4
= ₹8
So, Manu can use three ₹2 coins.
The remaining money
= ₹7.50 - 6
= ₹1.50
We know that, ₹1 = 100 paise
⇒ ₹1.50 = ₹1.50 × 100 = 150 paise
The value of three 50 paise coins
= 50×3
= 150 paise
Hence, Manu will need three ₹2 coins and three 50 paise coins to buy the eraser.
