Mary Mallon is suffering from latent tuberculosis. It is caused by bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. She does not show any symptoms of the disease. However, she is able to spread it to another person by sneezing or coughing as tuberculosis is an airborne disease. There are chances that the pathogen is being transmitted unknowingly from her to the other customers. The symptoms of tuberculosis include chest pain, difficulty breathing, coughing, fatigue, fever, chills.
