Mass and Weight are two different things. If a person's weight is 60kgon Earth does that mean his mass is around 6kg? And if his mass is 6kg on Earth does that means his weight is about 60kg?

Solution

Yes, mass and weight are two different things. Mass is the matter contained in the body. it is a constant quantity and does not change with the position and remains constant everywhere. However weight is the force by which the Earth attracts the body towards itself. It is a variable quantity and its value changes with the change in the value of acceleration due to gravity. And if we consider g, acceleration due to gravity as 10 m/s then, a body of mass 6 kg will weigh 60 N and vice versa.
