Haemophilus influenzae - Bacteria :
Pneumonia is a bacterial disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae. Pneumonia is characterised with accumulation of fluid or pus in the lungs. The pus develops as a result of inflammatory responses against pathogens that attack and destroy the alveoli in the lungs. This results in difficulty in breathing and other symptoms such as cough, fever, chills etc.

Entamoeba histolytica - Protozoan :
Entamoeba histolytica is an amoeboid protozoan parasite that causes amoebic dysentery. It is a monogenetic parasite that completes its life cycle in a single host i.e. man. It is transmitted through contaminated food and water.

Plasmodium falciparum - Protozoan :
Plasmodium is a protozoan parasite that causes malaria. It is coming under sporozoan parasites. It is a digenetic parasite which completes its life cycle in humans and Anopheles mosquitoes. Plasmodium falciparum causes malignant malaria or sub-tertian malaria. Symptoms of malaria include high temperature after every 48 hours with chill and shivering, followed by profuse sweating.

Wuchereria bancrofti - Nematode:
Elephantiasis or filariasis is caused by Wuchereria bancrofti, a filarial worm. The pathogens are transmitted to a healthy person through the bite of an infected female Culex mosquito. They usually affect the lymphatic vessels and are characterised by the swelling of the legs, scrotum and other parts of the body.

Salmonella typhi - Bacteria :
Salmonella typhi bacteria causes typhoid fever in human beings. It is spread by contaminated food and water. The common symptoms include high fever, headache, stomachache, constipation, loss of appetite and in severe cases perforation in the intestine. This disease can be diagnosed by a Widal test.
