A | Sponge | (i) | Tuber |
B | Yeast | (ii) | Offset |
C | Potato | (iii) | Gemmules |
D | Water hyacinth | (iv) | Budding |
Budding is a type of asexual reproduction. It is observed in some unicellular organisms as well as some multicellular animals.
In animals, it is of two types - (1). exogenous/ external budding and (2). endogenous/internal budding.
In exogenous budding, a bud is formed on the external surface of the parent’s body which may later bud off and exist independently. Eg:- Hydra.
In endogenous budding, buds are formed within the parent’s body. These buds are called gemmules. Eg:- Sponges
Yeast is a unicellular fungus that undergoes asexual reproduction by budding.
Potato is vegetatively propagated by underground modification of stems called tubers which have axillary buds over their nodes (also called 'eyes').
Water hyacinth is an aquatic angiosperm that is vegetatively propagated by means of sub-aerial stem modifications known as offsets.
