Amines are classified as primary, secondary and tertiary depending upon the number of hydrogen atoms replaced by alkyl or aryl groups in ammonia molecule. If one H-atom of ammonia is replaced by alkyl or aryl group, it is called a primary amine. Replacing two and three H-atoms from ammonia will result in secondary and tertiary respectively. Organic compounds containing both carboxyl and amino groups are called aminoacids.
