Striated muscles are the skeletal muscles which are closely associated with skeletal components in the human body. The name striated is due to the appearance of striations (alternate dark and light bands) when observed under a microscope. Their activity is under the voluntary control of the nervous system and hence are known as voluntary muscles.
Red muscle fibres are those fibres which have high concentrations of the oxygen containing pigment called myoglobin. These also have high mitochondrial numbers which help in aerobic respiration. Hence, these muscles are called aerobic muscles.
Troponin is a protein molecule which is located at regular intervals on the thin filament. Troponin, along with actin and tropomyosin, constitute actin filaments which are called thin filaments.
The protein myosin makes up the thick filament. It is made up of meromyosin.
