Upon his return from South Africa in 1915, Mahatma Gandhi launched a series of satyagrahas. This was his way of mobilising the masses peacefully against the exploitative measures of the British rule. He started with the Champaran Satyagraha in 1917 in Bihar, followed by the Kheda Satyagraha in 1918 in Gujarat. These two satyagrahas were followed by the Rowlatt Satyagraha which was organised on a much larger scale.
