Solution

The correct option is A A-3, B-4, C-2, D-1
  • Xylem vessel elements are the building blocks of vessels, which constitute the major part of the water transport system in the plants where they occur. They are elongated but generally shorter and wider than tracheids. At both ends, there are openings that connect the individual vessel elements. These are called perforations or perforation plates and they allow water to flow easily through the xylem vessel.
  • A tracheid conducts water and gives support to the xylem. Tracheids are long, narrow cells with tapered ends or chisel-like ends whose walls are hardened with lignin, a chemical compound that fills in spaces in the cell wall.
  • Xylem fibres are represented by the dead sclerenchyma fibers that are found in between the vessels and the tracheids. They are meant for providing mechanical support to the essential elements. The xylem fibres have highly thickened walls and obliterated central lumens.
  • Xylem parenchyma is the only living component in the xylem tissue. It is represented by groups of parenchyma cells that are found in between the vessels and the fibers. They are meant for the storage of reserved food.
  • So, the correct answer is option A.
