Match the following mixtures to their correct types.
Mixture Types(a) Air(1) Homogeneous(b) Water and mustard oil (c) Chocolate chip cookies(2) Heterogeneous(d) Ornamental gold
(1): (a) and (d), (2): (b) and (c)
A homogeneous mixture is the type of mixture in which the components mixed are uniformly distributed throughout the mixture or in other words “the same throughout”. We can observe only one phase of matter in the homogeneous mixtures. A homogeneous mixture cannot be easily separated. Air is a homogeneous mixture of various gases like oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, etc. Similarly, ornamental gold is a homogeneous mixture as well because it is mixed with copper in a uniform phase.
A heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture that can be easily separated into its parts, and those parts retain their original properties. A heterogeneous mixture is not blended together or the same consistency throughout. Water and mustard oil do not mix uniformly and individual 'zones' of water or oil can be seen in the mixture. Similarly, you can remove the chocolate chips and eat them!
