Solution

The four major iron-ore belts are :

  1. Orissa-Jharkhand belt - haematite iron ore is found in the mines of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts of Orissa and Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.
  2. Durg-Bastar-Chandrapur belt - the haematite ores from the mines in Chattisgarh and Maharashtra are exported to Japan and South Korea.
  3. Bellary-Chitradurga-Chikamagalur-Tumkur belt - the ore from Kudremukha mines in Chikamagalur is transported as slurry to a port near Mangalore through a pipeline.
  4. Maharashtra - Goa belt - though they are not of very superior quality, the ore from this belt is exported through the Marmagao port.
