Solution

HCl:

  1. HCl or hydrochloric acid is secreted by the parietal cells present within the stomach.
  2. This acid has multiple functions such as killing germs and microbes that come along with the food from the mouth, they die in this highly acidic low pH environment.
  3. The acid also acts as an activator of the enzyme pepsin which is inactive in general but needs HCl to function and break down proteins.
