Functions of lysosomes:

  1. They keep the cell clean by digesting any external material as well as worn-out cell parts.
  2. They serve as the intracellular digestive system.
  3. They digest macromolecules by engulfing solid particles and also absorb molecules from the outer side of the cell.
  4. They protect cytosol from degrading enzymes.
