There are two solutions which are used in the experiment for the detection of the presence of starch are alcohol and iodine solution. When the leaves are treated with alcohol, they turn colourless and then the leaves are washed with water and tested with iodine solution. The region of leaf with starch turned bluish black and the region which was covered with black paper remain colourless.
