Solution

Transpiration:

It is the process of water loss in the form of water vapour from the aerial parts of the plants.

Adaptations of plants to reduce transpiration:

1. Presence of cuticle:

  • The cuticle is the waxy layer present on the outer layer of the epidermis.
  • This waxy coating helps prevent water loss by the plants.

2. Leaves modified into spines:

  • Leaves of certain plants are reduced to form spines to prevent water loss.

3. Less number of stomata:

  • The presence of less number of stomata on the leaves of plants is an adaptation to prevent water loss.
