Let us consider a Cartesian plane thinking positive Xaxis as East; negative one as West; positive Yaxis as North; negative as South.
Mohan walks along positive Xaxis 4 km later he walks parallel to negative Yaxis 3 km.
Finally, he moves parallel to Xaxis 4 km in negative direction and turns back.
Hence, he is still parallel to Xaxis but as he is in opposite direction, he faces positive side which is nothing but East.
