(i) The monsoon is known for its uncertainties. While it causes heavy floods in one part, it may be responsible for droughts in the other.
(ii) The rainfall is unevenly distributed across the Indian landscape. Early in the season, the windward side of the Western Ghats receives heavy rainfall i.e., more than 250 cm.
(iii) The rain shadow areas of Deccan plateau and parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Leh receive scanty rainfall The maximum rainfall is recorded in the north-eastern part of the country.
