Question

most of the energy consumed by an organism is available for the organism at the next trophic level true/ false

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

Given statement is False.
Most of the energy (90%) is lost in form of heat , only 10 % is passed on to next trophic level.

10% law is associated with flow of energy in ecosystem. This was given by Lindeman in 1942. This law tells us that during transfer of energy from one trophic level to next only 10% energy is stored or become part of the biomass of organism of that trophic level and remaining 90% energy is lost in the form of heat or by any other means during transfer. In other words only 10% energy is transfer form one trophic level to other.
