Solution

Step I : To find the Cost of xkg potatoes :

Given weight of potatoes =xkg

weight of onions =(x-3)kg

Given cost of 1kg potatoes =12

Cost of xkg potatoes =12×x=12x

Step II : To find the cost of (x-3)kg onions :

Given cost of 1kg onions =14

Cost of (x-3)kg onions =14×(x-3)=14x-42

Step III : To find the total expenditure of Mr Roy :

Total expenditure of Mr. Roy =12x+14x-42=(26x-42)

Hence, the above is the required answer.
