In the given example of food chain the primary consumer (second trophic level) is a cow which directly feeds on the producers or plant (first trophic level) in a terrestrial ecosystem. Curd/yoghurt is a commercial diary product produced on fermenting the cows milk by lactobacillus bacteria (Streptococcus thermophillus). The bacteria in the milk utilizes the Lactose (milk sugar) and converts it into one of the by-products lactic acid. Thus lactobacillus is the secondary consumer (third trophic level) finally curd is eaten by Mr X who is the tertiary consumer (fourth trophic level)
