August Weisman performed the mutilation experiments on rats. He cut the tails of male and female rats and allowed them to breed. All the offsprings were having a normal tail. He repeated this experiment for 21 generations of rat and still found all the newborn rats with normal tails. Thus he disproved Lamarck's idea of acquired characters being transmitted to future generations.
