Solution

Instructions:

  1. Define hunter-gatherers.

  2. List out the various food items that they consumed.

  3. List out the various problems that they faced to obtain food.

Solution:

  • Thousands of years ago people did not know how to cultivate their own food.

  • One way to obtain food was to collect food items such as wild berries, fruits, vegetables, edible roots, etc. This method of obtaining food was called gathering.

  • Another method of obtaining food was by hunting small animals and birds.

  • The people who used to obtain food by hunting and gathering were called ‘hunter-gatherers’.

  • They used to face various problems such as:

    • What can be eaten?

    • Where does the plant grow and when does it bear fruits?

    • Whether the food can be eaten raw or does it need to be cooked?

    • Where do the animals live and their behavior?

  • These hunter-gatherers collected all this information over many years and passed it to the next generation.
