Let the total number of fish caught by Jamie on the 1st day of the tournament be 'f'.

So, the number of fish caught on each day will be:
1st day = f
2nd day = f + 8
3rd day = (f + 8) + 8 = f + 16
4th day = (f + 16) + 8 = f + 24
5th day = (f + 24) + 8 = f + 32

Total number of fish caught in five days = 200

So, arranging the equation, we get:
f + f + 8 + f + 16 + f + 24 + f + 32 = 200
⇒ 5f + 80 = 200
⇒ 5f = 200 – 80
⇒ 5f = 120
f=1205
