Question

N factor for disporportion reaction

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

In the compounds undergoing disproportion reaction, n-factor can be found out by knowing the balanced chemical reaction and considering only one process. For eg. 2H2O2 2H2O +O2Here out of these two H2O2 molecules, one mole is oxidised and one mole is reduced. For oxidation H2O2 O2n-factor = Change in oxidation state =[2×0-(-1)×2]=2For reduction reactionH2O2 2H2On-factor = Change in oxidation state =[(-2)×2-(-1)×2]=2n-factor is same for both, so n-factor is 2If n-factor can also be different for both the reactions.
