Solution

The substance distributed as particles is called the dispersed phase. The continuous phase in which the colloidal particles are dispersed is called dispersion medium.
A colloid in which tiny solid particles are dispersed in a liquid medium is called 'sol'. For example milk of magnesia , mud, etc.
