Question

Name a covalent or nonpolar molecule that acts as a strong electrolyte?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The electrolyte that is able to decompose or dissociate completely is a Strong electrolyte.
  2. Almost all the strong electrolytes are ionic compounds but some of the covalent or nonpolar molecules are also strong electrolytes.
  3. These covalent molecules are mostly acidic compounds.
  4. For example, Hydrogen chloride(HCl) is an acidic strong electrolyte that decomposes completely into ions.
  5. The decomposition of Hydrogen chloride produces Hydrogen ion(H+) and Chloride ion(Cl-).
  6. So the nonpolar or covalent molecule that is a strong electrolyte is Hydrogen chloride(HCl).
