Name a gland which is partly exocrine and partly endocrine.

Solution

The pancreas is called a mixed gland because it has both endocrine and exocrine functions.
  • Exocrine role: It secretes a digestive fluid called pancreatic juice, which is released inside the small intestine through the pancreatic duct. This fluid consists of various digestive enzymes like trypsin, lipase, amylase, nucleases, etc.
  • Endocrine role: It produces two hormones, insulin and glucagon, which are released into the blood. Both these hormones are required for glucose metabolism.
