Question

Name a medium through which convection of heat energy takes place.

Open in App
Solution

Convection:

  1. Convection is the process of heat transfer by the bulk movement of molecules within fluids such as gases and liquids
  2. In this process, the transfer of heat takes place by the actual movement of the matter which is heated.

How convection takes place:

  1. When a liquid or a gas is heated, its density decreases, i.e. it becomes lighter in weight.
  2. The warmer volume of gas or a liquid rises while a colder and therefore heavier volume descends, this process is known as natural convection.

Hence, through liquid and gas medium convection of heat energy takes place.
