Aerial roots are roots that are fully or partially exposed to the air. They do attach to something, at least eventually, like trees, bark, or rocks, but they never become fully submerged in the soil. Roots that grow deep in the soil are underground roots. Some trees have both, underground as well as aerial roots. Examples of such trees are banyan tree, mangroves, etc.
