Three types of recruitment interviews are discussed below:

(i)Informal interview:
This type of interview is not planned and may be conducted anywhere. It is used when staff is required urgently. In this type of interview,only general questions are asked, such as candidate's name,date of birth,previous experience, etc.

(ii)Formal interview:
This type of interview is planned beforehand and is held in a formal atmosphere. The date, time, venue and panel of interviewers are all decided in advance.

(iii)Patterned or structured interview:
This type of interview is pre-planned with a high degree of depth and accuracy. A list of questions is prepared and the questions are asked in a predetermined sequence. The time allowed for each interview is also fixed. The candidate is only required to answer the questions put forth in a direct manner. This interview is also referred to as directed or guided interview.
