Protoplasm:

  1. Protoplasm can be defined as the colourless, living part of the cell, which is found surrounded by a plasma membrane.​
  2. It contains cytoplasm and the nucleus.
  3. It has thick, translucent fluid composed of lipids, carbohydrates, inorganic salts, and nucleic acids.

Constituent elements of the protoplasm:

  1. The constituent elements of the protoplasm are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, sulphur, nitrogen and phosphorus.
  2. Protoplasmic elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorous and sulphur become constituent of protoplasmic components like nucleic acids, proteins, chlorophyll etc.
  3. Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen are the basic framework elements required for synthesis of all the biomolecules.
  4. Nitrogen and phosphorous are the element required for synthesis of nucleic acids.
  5. Nitrogen and sulphur are the additional element, required for the synthesis of proteins.
