Solution

1. Lead carbonate PbCO3 solution reacts with dilute nitric acid dil.HNO3 to form lead nitrate PbNO32, water H2O and carbon dioxide CO2 gas.

2. The chemical equation representing the reaction is written below:

PbCO3+2HNO3PbNO32+H2O+CO2g

3. The lead nitrate obtained is then treated with dilute sulphuric acid dil.H2SO4 and a white precipitate of lead sulphate PbSO4 is formed along with nitric acid HNO3.

4. The chemical equation representing the reaction is written below:

PbNO32+H2SO4PbSO4+2HNO3

Hence, to prepare lead sulphate, the substance required is lead carbonate solution, dil.HNO3 and dil.H2SO4
