Pébrine is a disease of silkworms, which is caused by protozoans microsporidian parasites, mainly Nosema bombycis now classified as fungus, and to a lesser extent Variomorpha, Pleistophora species etc. The silkworm larvae infected by pébrine are usually covered in brown dots and are unable to spin silkworm thread. They cause death of eggs or larva during their third moult. It is the worst disease of silk worms.
