Cerebrospinal fluid

  1. The space between the meninges of the spinal cord and the brain is filled with the cerebrospinal fluid.
  2. Meninges present in a form of continuous sheet all over the brain and spinal cord.
  3. It is of three layers namely the outermost dura matter, then arachnoid and the innermost pia matter.
  4. The fluid acts as a shock absorber protecting the brain and the spinal cord against mechanical injury.
  5. It also nourishes the central nervous system.
