Name the following

A bond is formed by transfer of electron

Open in App
Solution

A bond is formed:

  • Either by gaining or by losing of electrons:
  • By sharing of electron
  • By donating a pair of electron

Answer

When an atom loses an electron it becomes positively charged and it is called a cation. When an electron gains an electron it becomes negatively charged and it is called an anion.

There is an electrostatic force of attraction between a cation and anion, thereby forming a particular type of bond which is known as the Ionic bond.
