Solution

Cardiac cycle:

The cardiac cycle involves alternate construction (systole) and relaxation (diastole) of the heart muscles or heart chambers.

Phases of cardiac cycle:

(1) Joint Diastole: All four chambers are in relaxed mode.

(2) Contraction of both atria:

  1. Contraction (systole) occurs in the right and left atria.
  2. Both the ventricles are in relaxed mode (diastole).

(3) Contraction of both ventricles:

  1. Contraction (systole) occurs in the right and left ventricles.
  2. Both the atria are in relaxed mode (diastole).

Figure: Cardiac cycle
