Stomatas are tiny pores on the surface of leaves and stems which are surrounded by two bean shaped guard cells that regulate the opening and closing of stomatal pore.
Stomatas are meant for exchange of gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Stomatas are also involved in transpiration.
Submerged Aquatic Plants:
The submerged aquatic plants are all the time surrounded by water.
Due to abundance of water, there is no need of transpiration.
Therefore, stomatas are absent in submerged aquatic plants.
The exchange of gases takes from general body surface.
