The gas obtains by reacting with conc. Sulphuric acid:
Sulphuric acid is known as a very strong acid in nature that reacts with all types of bases to form their respective salts.
Also Concentrated Sulphuric acid mainly works as a dehydrating agent, which discards water molecules from the compound and makes them dehydratrated.
These reactions are generally known as dehydration reactions and the substance causing dehydration is known as the dehydrating agent.
The reaction of rock salt or Sodium chloride and Sulphuric acid basically produces Hydrochloric gas as the by-product.
The Hydrogen chloride gas produced, escapes from the medium which helps the reaction to not take place in a backward direction, and hence making the reaction irreversible.
