Parathyroid hormone

  1. Parathyroid hormones are secreted from parathyroid glands.
  2. They are four small glands in the neck behind the thyroid gland.
  3. Parathyroid hormone regulates calcium level in the blood, by increasing the levels when they are too low in the blood.
  4. It increases blood calcium level through its action on bone, kidney, and intestine.
  5. It helps in the absorption of calcium from the food by the intestine and the conservation of calcium by intestine.
  6. Parathyroid hormones are responsible for ossification of bones.
