Open in App
Solution

Antidiuretic hormone(ADH)

  1. ADH is also known as vasopressin and is produced by the hypothalamus and secreted by the posterior pituitary gland.
  2. When the body is under water stress conditions, the posterior pituitary secrets ADH that acts on the kidneys to boost water reabsorption.
  3. Diuretics are those substances that cause the formation of urine and antidiuretics result in the reduction of urine formation hence the name antidiuretic hormone.
  4. Hyposecretion of ADH causes increased urination leading to a condition known as diabetes insipidus.
