Islets of Langerhans:

  1. Islets of Langerhans are the endocrine part of the pancreas gland.
  2. Islets of Langerhans consist of many pancreatic islets.
  3. It has four types of cells (alpha cells, beta cells, delta cells and PP cells).

Hormones secreted by islets of Langerhans:

  1. Alpha- cells secrete glucagon hormone.
  2. Beta-cells of pancreatic islets secrete insulin hormone.
  3. Delta- cells of pancreatic islets secrete Somatostatin hormone.
  4. PP- cells of pancreatic islets secrete pancreatic polypeptide.
