Solution

Hormones:

Hormones are called the chemical messengers of the body. These chemicals are synthesized and secreted by endocrine glands directly in the bloodstream. The hormones are then transported to the target organs through the blood, where the substances stimulate physiological changes.

Hormones of the gastrointestinal wall:

  1. Gastrin- This hormone stimulates gastric acid secretion from the parietal cells in the stomach.
  2. Secretin- It stimulates the pancreas to secrete water and bicarbonate ions and regulates the secretion of the gastric acid in the stomach.
  3. Cholecystokinin- This hormone acts on the gall bladder and the pancreas, stimulating the organs to synthesize and secrete bile juice and pancreatic enzymes, respectively.
  4. Enterocrinin- It acts on the duodenum in the small intestine. This hormone stimulates the release of alkaline mucus to protect the stomach walls from gastric acid.
