1. Neurons are the functional units of the nervous system. It helps in the transmission of electrical impulses between sensory organs, the central nervous system, and the effector organs.
2. The neuron consists of different parts as shown in the diagram below. They are- a cell body (soma) consisting of a nucleus, dendrites, axon with or without myelin sheath, and nerve endings.
3. One neuron comes in close contact with the next neuron or effector cell via a synapse.
