Question

Name the metals which do not displace hydrogen from acids

Open in App
Solution

Acid:

  1. An acid is a hydrogen-containing compound that gives hydronium ions H3O+ or H+(aq) when dissolved in water.
  2. An acid reacts with most metals to form corresponding salt and hydrogen gas.
  3. The metal placed below the hydrogen will not displace the hydrogen because they are less reactive than the hydrogen.
  4. Example: 1. Cu+HClNoreaction.

2. Ag+HClNoreaction.

Hence, less reactive or noble metals like copper, silver, and gold do not displace hydrogen from acids.
