(a) Thyroid gland
Location:
It is a butterfly (bow-tie) shaped gland consisting of two lobes.
It lies on either side of the roof of the trachea inferior to the larynx and near the base of the neck.
It is usually connected by a thin isthmus extending over the anterior surface of the second, third and fourth tracheal rings.
(b) Adrenal gland :
Location:
The adrenal gland looks like a small pyramid, trigonal shaped suprarenal gland(weight about 5 grams)
It is present at the apex of each kidney and next to the vena cava.
Each gland consists of two parts: The outer cortex region that produces steroid hormone and the inner medulla region that produces epinephrine and nor-epinephrine hormone.
(c) Pituitary gland:
Location:
Located in a depression in the sphenoid bone, called sella turcica.
It is connected below the hypothalamus by the infundibulum (a stalk-like structure).
