Solution

a. Dendrites:

  1. Dendrites are short, finger-like projections present at the end of neurons.
  2. They receive input in the form of electrical impulses and transfer the received information to the soma of the neuron.
  3. The cytoplasm of dendrites contains Nissl bodies, mitochondria, and other cellular organelles.
  4. It provides increased surface area for receiving stimuli from other neurons.

b. Axon:

  1. Axons are thin nerve fibers that carry nerve impulses from one neuron to another.
  2. It joins the cell body at the axon hillock and is insulated with a fatty substance known as myelin.
  3. This helps in the conduction of electrical signals.
