Non-cyclic photophosphorylation is when it happens. While NADP is being reduced with the help of protons, photosystem II is receiving electrons. As a waste product, oxygen is emitted.

When the electrons in chlorophyll depart during photosynthesis, a hole is left in their stead, which is filled with oxidized water.
This oxidized water releases oxygen and hydrogen as it splits.
