The Herbaceous or Seasonal crops are
(1) Kharif crop
(2) Rabi or the winter crop
(3) Zayed or the summer crop
The Kharif crops are sown in the months of June, July and harvested in September/October every year. Examples are paddy, maize, sugarcane, sorghum, peal millet, pulses and oil seeds.
The Rabi crops are sown in the months of October/November and harvested in March/April every year. Examples are wheat, oat, barley, pea and mustard.
The Zayed or the summer crops are sown in March/April and harvested before rainy season. These are mostly fruits and vegetables. Example: gourds, cucumber, bitter gourd, melons and moong. It is to be noted that Zayed crops do not include any grain crop.
