Fresh water fish-
Ponds, rivers canals and other resevoirs are resources for fresh water fishery. The most common fresh water fish varieties are Common Carp, Grass Carp, Silver Carp, Mrigals, Catla and Rohus. Sometimes fresh water fish are grown in the water of rice field. But there is a more beneficial composite fish water culture system in which local and imported fresh water fish species are grown together.
Marine water fish-
India is rich in its marine resources. There are about 65 different species of marine fish that are harvested in India. Most important marine fish varieties that are caught from marine resources are pomphret, Bombay duck, sardines, tuna, mackeral etc. Other commercially important varieties which are farmed in sea water are pearl spots, mullets, bhetki and prawns etc.
